We believe that students need to be able to learn to read in order to read to learn. As many reading programs continue to move away from traditional phonemic principles, we are committed to employing systematic phonics, emphasizing the alphabets principle in the initial reading development. Our approach stems from the Orton and Gillingham approach which takes advantage of the sound/symbol relationships embedded in the alphabetic system of writing.
This training offers a language based, multisensory, structured, sequential, cognitive and flexible approach allowing students to be able to learn to read in order to be able to read to learn. Students gain confidence in language and are able to decode and encode enhancing students’ ability to be able to read for meaning and explore the art of writing.
