Global Schools Connect Program

The demands of the 21st century require that students are nurtured through global citizenship to understand the big issues in the world and their role in the sustainability of our world. Alongside global citizenship are other skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration skills that can occur when this is presented as part of a well designed programme.

The Global Schools Connect Programme is that unique programme that supports schools develop social action and global citizenship among their students whilst developing meaningful international partnerships. This is an exciting opportunity for schools to collaborate across Africa, Asia and Europe continents. This unique programme focuses on global citizenship, fostering research skills and self-directed learning with creativity. Students collaborate with their partner school as they jointly research one of the sustainable development goals outlined by the United Nations.

This research morphs into a creative piece during the virtual collaboration sessions. This culminates in a London School Exchange programme.

GLOBAL SCHOOLS CONNECT PROGRAMME 2023

Students in Evergreen School, Patricia School and Jaypecstar Academy partnered with Sydney Russell School one of the largest schools in East London and had an amazing experience at the Global School Connect Programme 2023. This transformative programme commenced in April with a joint planning meeting across the schools which kicked off the virtual collaboration. The excitement on the students faces as they made friends and interacted through zoom researching on the theme CHANGE but with each school picking their own sustainable development goal. They explored Climate Action, Life below the water and No Poverty. It was such a joy to watch the children blossom into researchers and creative artists.

The London School Exchange

Then came the next exciting phase as students in Nigeria packed the suitcases and headed down to London on 25th June 2023 to finally meet their new found friends

It was a week of sharing, laughter and fun as the students studied with their peers in Sydney Russell School

Teachers from Nigeria and London had a joint training session.

The joy was palpable as the students in London were eager to hear about Nigeria. The grand finale was the Global Schools Connect Celebration and Awards hosted by Sydney Russell School. It was a display of culture from the Nigerian schools and medals to wrap it up.

The teachers at Sydney Russell were not left out as their colleagues and students from Nigeria adorned them with the Nigerian head gear and beads.

The other highlights at the Global Schools Connect Programme were a trip to the London Science Museum which was immersive and experiential learning as its peak. The final trip to Chessington World of Adventures left the students in a bubble of excitement. One of the kids called their visit “a trip of a lifetime”.

The feedback from all our schools

Doris Chinedu Evergreen School Director

Since the London School exchange programme we have noticed a difference in our students. They have become research driven and so compassionate. After exploring their topic of No Poverty they have decided engage in a charity event to help a local orphanage

Itohan Patricia School Director

This programme was transformative for our students. We have observed an increased level of confidence in them since the programme and a desire to engage in self directed learning. Many parents are now asking if their children can be a part of the programme and be among the select few to attend the London School Exchange

Jennifer Jaypecstar Academy Director

The programme has enabled us to discover dormant talents in our students. The session on poetry and spoken word helped us see another side of the students. From some of our least expected students emerged poetry and spoken word artists and this has also boosted their self-esteem
