A number of students are in need of support because of an underdevelopment of their cognition. Hidden disabilities also known as learning difficulties are thought to affect around 10% of the population, 4% severely. Mainstream schools are populated with students of varying abilities. The responsibility of the teacher is to use differentiation to meet the needs of each child in the class.
